Surfacing traces the development of Polly Binns` work over her thirty-year career to date, from college through to two major new works. Trained as a sculptor, Binns has explored her ideas through ceramic, paint, textile and latterly digital media. For many years she has charted the shifting coastal landscape at Blakeney, seeking to capture the subtle nuances of sand and water, light and shade and the passage of time. The exhibition will include Landmark, eighty painted and stitched panels that will cover an entire wall of the Gallery, and Surfacing a projected video with sound that will enfold the viewer in the watery landscape.
The Gallery is publishing a substantial monograph on Polly Binns to accompany the exhibition, which will tour nationally until the end of 2004.
