focus on dance

part of Bury St Edmunds Festival 9-25 May

Inspired by the history of the Market Cross building, in particular its use as a space for local dances in the mid 20th century, Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery features the work of four contemporary artists who consider the theme of dance through the spectacle of performance and in various collaborations between artists, choreographers, dancers and spectators.

The fastest growing cities in the world today are on the African continent. By 2015 Lagos will be the second largest city in the world, following closely on the heels of Tokyo.

Combining portraiture and landscape, Paul Seawright’s photographs made in Lagos, Johannesburg, Lusaka and Addis Ababa, focus on those seemingly interminable prosaic moments, glimpses of the everyday in the hidden recesses of the city.
