13 January – 24 February 2007
Established in 1996 as The Cheltenham Open Drawing Exhibition and
renamed The Jerwood Drawing Prize in 2001 when the Jerwood
Charitable Foundation became the principle sponsor, this annual
exhibition has consistently identified talent and excellence in
the field of contemporary drawing. This year’s exhibition
is made up of 47 drawings by 43 artists. Both collectively and individually
these works clearly demonstrate innovation, diversity and progression;
they contribute to debate about what drawing is and play an important
part in the redefinition of the medium and its boundaries.
The Jerwood Drawing Prize 2006 includes both
established and emergent artists selected for exhibition by artist
Jason Brooks, Yvonne Crossley, Director of The Drawing Gallery in
London, and Paul Thomas, artist and co-founder of The Jerwood
Drawing Prize. The project is delivered through the working
partnership of Wimbledon College of Art and the Jerwood Charitable
Foundation. |
