| All events take place in the Gallery unless otherwise stated. The Gallery is pleased to welcome groups to exhibitions and organisers are advised to book in advance. The Gallery also encourages visitors to work in the space if they wish and an informal introduction to the exhibition can often be provided on request. people aged over 65 in Suffolk. To celebrate this Suffolk County
Council initiative, the Gallery is providing an exciting programme
of activity during October with support from Suffolk Artlink.
Organised for local people, Heritage Open Days is
England’s biggest
and most popular voluntary cultural event, attracting over one million
visitors last year. It celebrates England's fantastic architecture
and culture by offering free access to properties which are usually closed
to the public or which normally charge for admission. Fabulous Fairies and Bewitching Wizards If you are aged 5 to 7 years and want to be a fairy or a wizard, come and meet the magical storyteller, Meg Clibbon. Meg and her daughter, Lucy, are the creators of the enchanting ‘Imagine you are ......’ series of children’s books. Each session runs between 11 am and noon and children are welcome to come dressed up. Coffee and fairy-cakes for accompanying parents and a goody bag for each participating child. Signed books and cards by Meg & Lucy Clibbon will be available to buy. Wednesday, 13 August Wednesday, 20 August WORKSHOPS Monday 1 September Choose you spot in Bury St Edmunds on our largescale town
centre map and design and draw your ideal playground for the townspeople
and visitors. You could feature climbing frames, slides and swings
amidst a landscape of trees and rolling hills or perhaps a theme park
with a rollercoaster soaring through the busy streets. A Big
Draw family event sponsored by Swaingrove Print and
led by artist Rosie Copeland. TALKS Tuesday, 26 August, 7.00 pm Clive Paine gives an engaging talk on tales and myths originating from historical events such as the Green Children of Woolpit and Black Shuck and those from European fairytales such as Tom Tit. Talk ends at approximately 9.00 pm. Wednesday, 3 September 2008, 7.00 pm A fascinating talk by Clive Paine on the witchcraft
trials which were led by Matthew Hopkins. Tuesday, 21 October 2008,
7.00 pm Fraser Harrison reconsiders his 1986 essay, Who Owns Nature? exploring his relationship with the landscape and questions of value and ownership of the natural environment. Fraser is an author based in Suffolk and is exhibiting in These Valued Landscapes. Tuesday, 9 December 2008, 7.00 pm Internationally-renowned textile artist Jo Budd is
known for her abstracted landscapes and striking use of colour. Her
observations of the north Suffolk landscapes and waterscapes are expressed through an experimental
approach to stitch and colour using water and rust dyes on silk. The
results are complex, layered with meaning and rewarding to the eye. |
